For the first time ever, I’m attempting NaNoWriMo, which stands for National Novel Writing Month. During the 30 days of November, writers from all over the world attempt to write a 50,000 word novel in that short time frame.

Because November involved so much holiday work for Thanksgiving (USA) and Christmas, I’ve never joined the effort in the past. But this year, I cleared my schedule. During October, I did the prep work on a story idea for a traditional Regency romance. Tentatively I’ve titled Her Husband’s Return.

Today November 1 is the first of the 30 days. I wrote my words in 500-word chunks. I knew what had to happen because I am a plotter and list maker by nature. Yet, I needed the break between each chunk to consider what phrases and dialogue would show the story. Maybe as I get better at pushing myself, these chunks of words will contain higher numbers than 500.

Still I ended the day with my first chapter completed, and 2,724 words banked toward my 50,000.
